 As of late October, 92% of Singaporeans have completed the basic vaccination regimen of two doses. 79% of the population has also received at least one booster shot according to Statista. Even with the population’s high vaccination rate, questions have arisen regarding the threat of the XBB variant and the possibility of a newer strain emerging. Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses causing illnesses ranging from the common cold to severe lung infection such as pneumonia. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a new CoV strain first identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The outbreak was later declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on Jan 30, 2020.

Since it's emergence 2 years ago, it has led to many deaths around the world. Some of those who have contracted it suffer long-term effects even after recovery. 

The symptoms of COVID-19 infection are similar to that of an acute respiratory infection or pneumonia. They may include the following:

  • Fever
  • Sore Throat
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Loss of sense of smell

Some people who recover from COVID-19 continue to experience residual symptoms. This is called Long COVID and symptoms may include:

  • Difficulty thinking or concentrating or brain fog
  • Headache
  • Dizzinessor lightheadedness
  • Change in smell or taste
  • Depression or anxiety

We continue to enforce these measures in our Inpatient Suites (IPS) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for your safety and wellbeing.

  • Mandatory mask wearing at our hospital and medical centre
  • Readily available wheelchairs for patients and visitors
  • Limited visitation policy in line with MOH directives
