Rehabilitation

What is Rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is the process of restoring and regaining the loss of a variety of physical, mental, and/or cognitive abilities needed for daily life. The loss may be due to ageing or a health condition, including chronic diseases or disorders, injuries or traumas.

Rehabilitation can involve a multidisciplinary approach, including doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, and social workers. Depending on the individual’s needs, rehabilitation may focus on improving mobility, strength, coordination, speech, memory, or mental health.

Rehabilitation is a highly personalised health programme that may be in the form of exercise or therapy. It can help to prevent complications associated with stroke, fractures or injuries. Rehabilitation can also slow down the disabling effects of chronic health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes to manage pain and side effects of conditions.
