Dr. Tay Jia Sheng
General Surgeon

Dr. Tay Jia Sheng is a experienced specialist in general surgery, with a subspecialty focus in minimally invasive vascular, endovascular, and endovenous surgery.

He graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), in 2004. He had extensive exposure and experience in multiple surgical disciplines such as General Surgery, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery and Paediatric Surgery before formally embarking on Advanced Specialist Training in General Surgery.

He obtained his Master of Medicine in Surgery from NUS in 2015 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017. He joined Sengkang General Hospital in 2019 as one of the key founding vascular surgeons, making significant contributions to the establishment and development of the subspecialty unit.

Dr. Tay was privileged to receive comprehensive training opportunities abroad, including in the United States, Australia, South Korea, and Thailand. These experiences allowed him to learn and perfect a variety of innovative techniques from various renowned international experts. By bringing these advanced practices back home, he has been able to elevate the calibre of patient care he delivers in his own practice.

He led a high-volume practice within the Vascular & Endovascular Service at Sengkang General Hospital, performing 633 to 778 operations annually. His practice is renowned for its exemplary patient outcomes and exceptionally low complication rates, setting a benchmark in surgical excellence.

Dr. Tay has mastered various endovascular aortic aneurysm repair techniques including rupture endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (rEVAR), endosuture aneurysm repair, and chimney and parallel graft techniques, among others. He is one of the few vascular surgeons in Singapore who can perform minimally invasive saphenous vein graft harvest for arterial bypass.

He is a preeminent authority in peripheral atherectomy and intravascular ultrasound guidance for sub-millimetre accurate balloon angioplasty. He is proficient in utilizing a diverse range of peripheral atherectomy devices, such as orbital, rotational, laser, and directional atherectomy, along with distal embolic protection devices.

His mastery extends to advanced catheter thrombolysis/thrombectomy devices, including rheolytic thrombolysis/thrombectomy, rotational, mechanical, and aspiration thrombectomy for arteries, veins, and arteriovenous fistulae/grafts.

Recognised as a highly skilled practitioner in endovascular, vascular, and vein surgery, Dr. Tay has been invited to share his expertise at international conferences and live workshops. His roles as a proctor, speaker, and live case operator highlight his prominence in the field and his commitment to advancing surgical techniques for his fellow surgeons.

With advanced minimally invasive techniques forming an integral part of his repertoire, Dr. Tay is sought after for specialist opinions and has achieved high success rates across numerous surgical cases, including general surgical, venous, arterial, aortic, chronic wounds, and difficult dialysis access.
