Foot and Ankle surgery historically suffered from average outcomes. However with better understanding of biomechanics, better surgical techniques, better implants, this is no longer the case. Current foot / ankle surgery can be associated with excellent outcomes. In this interactive CME talk, we look at some common surgical procedures and videos of the functional outcomes. Audiences are also invited to guess which foot underwent surgery before.



Our Speaker

Dr. Chong Keen Wai
Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Chong Keen Wai graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was a Fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons (UK), The Universitaetsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus (Germany) and Royal Airforce Hospital (Thailand) in various sub-specialties. He had also obtained his Master of Medicine from NUS.

Dr. Chong’s main work is in correcting deformities of the leg, foot and ankle, knee and ankle replacements, management of foot and ankle sports injuries, and minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery. These include tendon endoscopy, arthroscopy of the ankle and lower-ankle (subtalar) joint. He served as the tournament physician during the 2014 WTA Finals tennis tournament in Singapore and was responsible for treating the world’s top female tennis professionals. 

Prior to leaving for private practice, Dr. Chong was consultant orthopedic surgeon at the Singapore General Hospital. During that time, he established the Fellowship Training Programme for foot and ankle and trained many overseas surgeons. He also received multiple service awards over the years. 

Dr. Chong is an active faculty member of the Association for Osteosynthesis (AOTrauma) which is an international foundation for orthopedic trauma education and had served as its Singapore Chairperson (2012-2015). He has also been awarded “Gold membership” status for his contributions. Dr. Chong is also a Visiting Professor at Shanghao Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
