Dr. Karmen Wong is a consultant medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Farrer Park. She is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), with fellowships at the Academy of Medicine Singapore and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). She also holds memberships at the American Society of Medical Oncology, the Singapore Oncology Society, the International Breast Cancer Study Group, and has specialist accreditation in Medical Oncology with Singapore’s Ministry of Health.
She is currently involved in the ongoing Lapatinib study in breast cancer and had participated in a multi-centre trial using Herceptin and chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer. Her contributions to her field had been significant, having pioneered the first multidisciplinary breast cancer treatment in Singapore and establishing a platform for treatment in other cancers with different disciplines of doctors. She also initiated the bone marrow transplant programme in solid tumor in Singapore and spearheaded the multidisciplinary tumor board and the Breast Cancer Clinic in Singapore General Hospital.
Dr Wong also presented the 1st Asian study in attitudes of cancer treatment among Asian patients in the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 1999.
Dr Wong's specialty interests are breast, gastrointestinal and gynecological cancers.
