Dr. Wong Poo Sing graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (now part of Imperial College London) with MBBS from the University of London (1986). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (1990), Fellow of the United Kingdom Intercollegiate Specialty in Cardiothoracic Surgery (1995), the American College of Chest Physicians (2000), the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (2000), the Fellow of Academy of Medicine, Singapore (2002) and the Fellow of Academy of Medicine, Malaysia (2006). Dr. Wong was trained in heart and lung surgery at the Royal Brompton Hospital and London Chest Hospital in London (1991-1994).
Dr. Wong is a specialist cardiothoracic surgeon and he specializes in coronary artery bypass, heart valve and aorta surgery, surgery for lung diseases, including cancer, infection and trauma, and chest wall surgery. Dr. Wong started private practice in 2007 and he is a visiting consultant at Johns Hopkins International Medical Centre, Mount Alvernia Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Prior to private practice, he was Associate Professor in Surgery at the National University of Singapore, a Senior Consultant and Clinical Director (Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery) at the National University Hospital, the Director of Thoracic Surgery, The Heart Institute (2001 to 2006). He had also helped set up Cardiothoracic Surgery in Penang and Johor Bahru (1995-2001).
He has published extensively in both local and international peer-reviewed journals and has been a speaker at medical conferences. Dr. Wong has also been a reviewer for several journals including Asian Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Annals, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Annals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. His previous research interests included the assessment of myocardial injury after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG), CABG in patients with heart dysfunction, the roles of nitric oxide and hydrogen sulphide in human arteries with diabetes and hypertension, foetal lung tissue in the co-culture of human embryonic stem cells with foetal lung tissue, and other projects related to cell lung cancers and tumor cells.
Dr. Wong's specialty interests are chest wall surgery, coronary arterny bypass, heart valve and aorta surgery, and surgery for lung diseases including cancer, infection and trauma.
