Biography
Dr. Yip Hwee Seng is a Respiratory Physician and Intensivist with The Respiratory Practice. He has a keen interest in asthma, community acquired pneumonia, endobronchial ultrasound, Intensive Care and point of care ultrasound.
Prior to private practice, Dr. Yip was a Senior Consultant Respiratory Physician and Intensivist with the Division of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore. He also served as the Clinical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at NUH from 2013 to 2019.
Dr. Yip graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2001. He completed his specialist training in Respiratory Medicine in 2010 at NUH. He further specialized in Intensive Care Medicine and completed that training in 2012. In 2012, he was awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award (Individual) by NUH to further pursue his interest in intensive care. He spent a year at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, where he served as an honorary fellow in the Intensive Care Unit.
When he returned to NUH, Dr. Yip dedicated an equal amount of his clinical time to respiratory medicine and intensive care medicine. During his tenure as Clinical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, he oversaw a wide range of quality improvement projects in NUH. In 2015, he was again awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award (Team) by NUH, where he led his team to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, to learn from the world leaders in early mobilization in the Intensive Care Unit. He implemented a similar early mobilization project in NUH, which led to improved patient functional outcomes after critical illness.
Dr. Yip also enjoys educating the next generation of doctors. He had been involved in educating medical students of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and was also a core faculty member of the National University Health System Internal Medicine Residency Program. He is currently a member of the Subspecialty Training Committee in Intensive Care Medicine.
Dr. Yip's specialty interests are community-acquired pneumonia, endobronchia ultrasound and biopsy, lung cancer diagnosis and staging, and severe asthma.
