Dr. John Hsiang is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist with more than 20 years of clinical experience. He spent more than six years in the SingHealth cluster serving in the Gastroenterology Department at Sengkang General Hospital.
Dr. Hsiang graduated from Otago Medical School, New Zealand, in 2003, completed his specialist training at the end of 2012, and obtained the Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Gastroenterology. In 2013, he spent two years as visiting scholar at the prestigious gastroenterology unit at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. He furthered his research career to complete a doctorate in liver disease research under his world-renowned mentor, Professor Henry Chan.
Dr. Hsiang has special clinical interests in managing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), dyspepsia, H.pylori infection, irritable bowel syndrome, fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, and irritable bowel syndrome and has extensive experience in gastrointestinal cancer screening.
Since Dr. Hsiang can speak fluent Mandarin and Hokkien, it helps put his patients at ease as he explains complex medical conditions. He provides patient education seminars and radio talk shows in fluent mandarin. He believes in empowering his patients with more knowledge so that, in turn, they can know more about their own medical condition so that the patient can be in control with the doctor's guidance. He believes patients should walk out of the clinic with more confidence and a clear understanding of managing their medical conditions.
Academically, Dr. Hsiang has published over 26 research studies with more than 950 citations in the areas of hepatitis B, liver cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, H.pylori infection, colon polypectomy, and hepatitis C. Other than his interests in clinical research, Dr. Hsiang has held the position of adjunct assistant professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and Duke-NUS medical students over the years. He is also a reviewer for several internationally renowned gastroenterology and hepatology journals. Currently, he is on the editorial board for the journal Hepatoma Research Journal.
Dr. Hsiang is panel doctor for Great Eastern , Prudential, NTUC Income, HSBC Insurance as well as corporate insurance such as Alliance, MHC and ixchange.
