Dr. Chuang Hsuan-Hung is a cardiologist and heart failure intensivist. He has held the post of Senior Consultant Cardiologist at National Heart Centre Singapore, and Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has lectured extensively in the Asia-Pacific. He has been a lecturer with the American College of Sports Medicine and is an advisor to the Singapore Sports Council. He is a board member of the Singapore Heart Foundation. He is also a member of the senate of the Management Development Institute of Singapore.
Dr. Chuang Hsuan-Hung graduated with MBBS from NUS in 1994. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Singapore General Hospital. Following a cardiology fellowship at the National Heart Centre of Singapore, Dr. Chuang was awarded scholarships from the Ministry of Health and the National Heart Centre for a two-year stint at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, United States. He sub-specialized in heart failure and heart transplant intensive care, and genetic heart diseases.
Dr. Chuang also pursued training in advanced cardiovascular imaging, during which he was involved in the research and development of numerous advanced cardiac imaging techniques and their applications in interventional cardiology and stem cell therapy. In 2006, he spent a sabbatical as a fellow at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York for training in cardiac and peripheral computed tomography (CT).
As recognition for his numerous publications and contributions towards the advancement of cardiovascular care and research, Dr. Chuang has been admitted as Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, Fellow of the American Heart Association, Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography, Fellow of the ASEAN College of Cardiology, and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
He is an active member of numerous international societies, including the Council on Clinical Cardiology, Council on Cardiovascular Radiology and Intervention, and Interdisciplinary Working Group on Functional Genomics and Translational Biology of the American Heart Association.
Dr. Chuang’s specialty interests are cardiomyopathy, heart failure, echocardiography imaging in heart care, heart attack (myocardial infarction), mechanical heart support, hypertension, preventive cardiology, sports cardiology, and onco-cardiology.
While it is true that you should eat a diet low in saturated and trans fat if you have heart disease, other fats such as unsaturated fats in olive oil and nuts are actually beneficial. In fact, eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, twice a week can lower the risk of heart disease.
