Dr. Tang Zhi Hao is a fellowship-trained specialist consultant orthopaedic surgeon. He had obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with distinction in Biochemistry from National University of Singapore in 2006. He had obtained his Fellowship in the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and accreditation from the Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB) in 2018. Prior to private practice, he was a consultant and Deputy Head of Department in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). His main scope of practice is in foot & ankle and general orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Tang had completed a Foot and Ankle surgery clinical fellowship in Severance Hospital (Yonsei University Health System) in Seoul, which is one of the largest hospitals in South Korea. He was under the tutelage of Professor Jin Woo Lee, who was then the President of the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies (IFFAS).
Dr. Tang’s main interests are hallux valgus (Bunion) correction, ankle ligament repair for ankle sprains and ankle arthroscopy. His scope of practice also includes foot deformity correction, including pes planus (Flatfoot) and pes cavus, treatment of heel pain (Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendon Disorder), ankle arthritis and osteochondral lesions as well surgeries for foot and ankle fractures. He was a member of the multi-disciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit (DFU) at KTPH, in which inpatients with diabetic foot ulcers and infections are treated. He also manages a wide variety of general orthopaedic conditions, including fractures, arthritis, sports conditions, carpal tunnel syndromes as well as lumps and bumps.
Dr. Tang has published numerous research articles on foot and ankle surgery in peer-reviewed, high impact, international journals including Foot and Ankle International. He was actively involved in teaching medical students from National University of Singapore and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He was also in the core faculty for the National Healthcare Group (NHG) residency program for training orthopaedic surgery residents, having organised hands-on cadaveric workshops.
He was the vice-chairman of the Medical Device Committee and a member of the Operating Theatre Committee in KTPH. He also served as a member of the NHG Wounds iCare Collaborative (WiCC) Research and Clinical Workgroup. He is the Singapore representative for the Asian Federation of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (AFFAS ) newsletter committee.
Dr. Tang's specialty interests include Hallux valgus (Bunion), pes planus (raised arch), ankle sprains/ligament injury, plantar fasciitis (Heel pain), Achilles tendon pathology, foot and ankle arthritis, minimally invasive surgery, and general orthopaedics.
