Biography

Dr. James Wee Liang Hao is an orthopedic surgeon with Oxford Orthopaedics. He also specialises in hip & knee, and foot & ankle surgery. 

Dr. Wee obtained his M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) degree from the National University of Singapore in 2005, having been placed on the Dean’s list with the Ivan Polunin Gold Medal. He completed his postgraduate specialist training in orthopaedic surgery and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (F.R.C.S. Edinburgh) in 2015.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Wee is passionate about medical education. He was appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Nanyang Technological University - Imperial College London). He served as the school’s Principal Lead for orthopaedic surgery, overseeing orthopaedic surgery-related education matters across Singapore. He was also a Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (National University of Singapore). As a Faculty Member of the NHG-AHPL Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Programme, he has been very active in post-graduate medical training.

Dr. Wee has been invited as a speaker in international conferences due to his expertise and knowledge in Hip & Knee Surgery and Foot & Ankle Surgery, and he has been engaged as an instructor at both local and regional surgical courses. He is published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has been invited to be a journal reviewer.

Oxford Orthopaedics had its genesis in Dr. James Wee’s fellowship experience in complex revision total hip replacement and total knee replacement at Oxford University Hospitals, where he also developed a special interest in the Oxford Partial Knee replacement. He received extensive training in partial knee replacement with the acclaimed inventor-surgeons of the Oxford Partial Knee System, and witnessed first-hand how minimally-invasive partial knee replacement resulted in less pain a er surgery, with safer, faster and better recovery compared to total knee replacement. Patients also benefited from a more natural-feeling knee with better movement a er undergoing partial knee replacement.

Dr. Wee is skilled in minimally-invasive hip & knee replacement and the use of robotic surgery (Mako, ROSA, NAVIO) to deliver more accurate and better surgical outcomes for his patients. Dr Wee is also experienced in Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) hip replacement surgery, which has the advantages of quicker and better early recovery.

Having completed his fellowship in Foot & Ankle Surgery at the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, Dr. Wee’s expertise in Foot & Ankle Surgery encompasses sports injuries, complex trauma, degenerative conditions, and neurological problems. He is well-versed in using arthroscopic (“keyhole”) and minimally invasive surgical (MIS) techniques in the treatment of recurrent ankle sprains, bunions & hammer toes, flat feet (pes planus), high-arched feet (pes cavus), and foot & ankle arthritis.

Dr. James Wee has a keen interest in the field of Limb Reconstruction Surgery, which includes Limb Lengthening and Limb Deformity correction surgeries. He was trained in using Ilizarov techniques and computer-assisted Hexapod technology at renowned centres in Austria, Italy and South Africa. He has accrued considerable experience in treating complex cases involving short limbs, congenital deformities, severe trauma and deep infections. 

His specialty interests are in Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Surgery, Total Knee Replacement, Complex Revision Knee and Hip Replacement Surgery
