Biography

Dr. Tey Tze Tong is a gastroenterologist with experience managing a wide range of digestive and liver conditions. His warm and gentle demeanour puts his patients at ease. He believes in a genuine and holistic approach to patient care. In recognition of this, Dr. Tey has received multiple quality service awards, including the Service With A Heart Award at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), the Singapore Health Quality Service Awards (SHQSA) Gold (2023), and SHQSA Star Award (2024).

Dr. Tey received his degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). He went on to attain Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from NUS. He was further elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He holds the European Specialty Certificate in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH). Dr Tey completed his senior residency training under Singhealth, and is a Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB) certified specialist in Gastroenterology.

Dr. Tey enjoys practicing all areas of gastroenterology and hepatology, and has extensive experience in performing both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including gastrointestinal and colon cancer screening. As Consultant Gastroenterologist, he headed the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) service at Sengkang General Hospital (SKH). Dr Tey continues his service to the public sector as a visiting consultant at SKH.

Dr. Tey’s subspecialty interest is in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He is a member of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO). Dr Tey completed the 18th IBD Advanced Course by ECCO in Vienna, Austria, and underwent further training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, United Kingdom. Dr Tey also trained in ultrasound at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, and is certified to perform Intestinal Ultrasound.

Dr. Tey has a keen interest in teaching and has been actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He has held the appointments of Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS), and Adjunct Lecturer at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU).

Dr. Tey was a faculty member of the Singhealth PGY1 Residency Program and Gastroenterology Senior Residency Program, where he mentored junior doctors and specialists in training. He was awarded the Singhealth Senior Educator Award and the Singhealth Residency Outstanding Faculty Award.

He performs the following endoscopy procedures – Gastroscopy (OGD), Colonoscopy, Capsule Endoscopy, Small Bowel Enteroscopy (Single or Double Balloon Enteroscopy).

Dr. Tey's specialty interests are in Abdominal Pain, General Gastroenterology, Colon Cancer Screening, Liver Diseases, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
