Dr. Tan Hong Yee received his basic medical training at the National University of Singapore and subsequently pursued Psychiatry as his specialty. He was previously practicing at the National University Hospital in the areas of general psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry (medical psychiatry) and geriatric psychiatry.
Dr Tan is experienced in treating a wide variety of psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders & grief, anxiety disorders, stress-related conditions, insomnia and psychological distress as a result of chronic health problems. He frequently utilises psychotherapy techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) alongside medications for the treatment of psychological distress.
Dr. Tan’s particular area of interest lies in Geriatric Psychiatry (Old Age Psychiatry), where he believes in holistic, personalized care of both the physical and psychological needs of the elderly. He values non-medical approaches in treating dementia and related memory problems, and had previously led a team specialising in behavioral intervention for dementia and also Horticultural Therapy for the elderly. He is especially passionate about the continuity of care across the full spectrum of cognitive decline and dementia syndromes, from pre-dementia to palliation.
Dr. Tan now practices in Mind Care Clinic at Farrer Park Medical Centre, in a setting designed for comfort and privacy. He believes in compassionate and individualised care for every patient.
