Dr. Shirley Bang Shieh Ling is a Urology Specialist experienced in an all-encompassing scope of urology issues ranging from simple procedures for urinary stones to complicated reconstructive surgery of the urinary tract. In addition, she is also skilled in general and oncological urological procedures such as endoscopic surgery for stone diseases, minimally invasive surgery for urological cancers and treatment of benign prostatic conditions.
Prior to private practice, Dr. Bang was a Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) where she built her experience and expertise in urology. She was instrumental in introducing Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS), a treatment for overactive bladder to the hospital. During her time at TTSH, she handled both simple and complex urological cases daily in addition to the running of weekly Urodynamic and Video Urodynamic sessions.
Dr. Bang obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Auckland in 2004. She subsequently obtained her Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS) in 2009 and her Master of Medicine in Surgery (M.Med) in 2010. She obtained her specialist accreditation as the Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS-Urology) in 2014. Dr. Bang did her subspecialty fellowship in three hospitals namely the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Birmingham Women’s Hospital and Russells Hall Hospital in United Kingdom. During her fellowship year, she performed complex incontinence and reconstructive surgeries for both male and female patients under the guidance of Dr. Mohammed Belal, Dr. Almallah Zaki, Dr. Pallavi Latthe and Dr. Paul Anderson. During her fellowship, Dr. Bang also ran a twice weekly Urodynamics and Video Urodynamics clinic
Dr. Bang sits on the Executive Committee of the Singapore Society for Continence. Apart from clinical work, she also mentors the Prostate Cancer Survival Support Group in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She has also authored research papers published in various respected urological journals such as Urology (Gold Journal) and Research and Reports in Urology.
Dr. Bang's specialty interests are functional and reconstructive surgery of the urinary system, overactive bladder syndrome, neurogenic bladder and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS).
